Friday Night With Friends

It was so lovely to be stitching along with everyone this evening... I hope you enjoyed your evening... Can't wait to go blog hopping over the weekend & see what everyone did... Thank You Cheryll for hosting us.

I really should have called this post "Damn & Blast, Surely Not Again", which is the sanitised version of what's really in my head right now...
I have put a lot of time into stitching my Redwork Noel to this stage, & only in taking this pic at the end of the evening do I see that something is not right... yep... that darned thread colour variation AGAIN...
See above the cottages here?! Bah!
well, I cannot figure out whether my heart is breaking or my blood is boiling, but it's something like that... what the naughty-word is going on with DMC threads?! I know this pic is not the best, but still the problem is clearly visible...
Both of the skeins I have used to stitch this were purchased at the same time; I just don't understand how there is such a big difference... to say it's all very disheartening is putting it lightly.

I just can't look at it... I'm off for a sulk...

Oh what shame Anthea and such beautiful work. I do hope that you are going to contact them and complain.

Oh wow! I have never had that problem before - and I have done many a cross-stitch!! I would DEFINITELY give them a call and, at the very least, let them know of the shade difference. It is possible that one of the strands was incorrectly marked, but even then this should not happen!! ... I'm guessing the skeins didn't look different at the time of purchase ;) ... Hope you can figure something out and that you don't have to pull all that work out!!! (If you do though, run a thread cutter along the BACK of the work, as in the straight-all-in-a-row stitches. I've found that this is the easiest and quickest way to remove a large section that has been incorrectly positioned ... as I said ... done many a cross-stitch, lol!). Hugs!!! xx

Oh no how frustrating... Hope you can get it sorted . You have done sew much work on the beautiful cross stitch.

Oh Anthea, I'm feeling your frustration. Maybe it's not what you want to hear today, but I think it's worth undoing the light section and trying again. I hope you can match the original thread colour. It's such a beautiful project. I always think it's amazing what shows up in a photo that you don't see when you're just looking at a project.

Oh, what a shame, that should not have happened.
They need to check their colour control.
I would contact them too.
have a good sulk, then perhaps pluck up the courage to unpick that side...I would be seeing RED!

Oh no. how disheartening. You have out so much work into this. Maybe unpicking the lighter thread and trying again might be worth considering? hugs

Hello Anthea,

I remember reading a French or Italian blog where the lady concerned had trouble with the thread running, she contacted DMC and they sorted it out for her. Maybe they will supply you with enough threads in the same colour.
Or you could think of one side casting a shadow over the other side of your picture!
When purchasing threads look at them in the daylight if you can, shops have fluro lighting which plays havoc with colours. I thought I had bought some blue fabric to match my blue zip one day. Got home and the fabric was a pale purple.

Enjoy the weekend.
Bev.

Hi Anthea,
There is something special about red and white, I love it. Hope the thread trouble gets solved.
Cheers, Anita.

It is a shame you are so disappointed with the colour. Just goes to show that even if you buy enough they might not all be the same. Still think it is beautiful though. Your stitching is lovely. hugs.....

Oh no - nothing we can say will really help - but be assured we feel your pain...
and red can be a very difficult colour!!!

How disappointing and frustrating for you; no wonder you want to sulk! I hope you can get some answers from DMC. Hugs!

I've experienced the same Anthea, I chose to unpick and re sew...it is gorgeous !

All that lovely work..what a pain.. hope you get it sorted

That is extremely disappointing. I have seen variations between batches of DMC but these are usually bought years apart! Its not a very good for a reputable company but it might be because the shop had two different batches on the shelf too.

I feel for you, I really do Anthea........but it's still a beautiful piece of stitching. I would put in a complaint to their customer services department, you may get some freebies in compensation.......but I know that doesn't really make up for such obvious variation in thread colour.x

How disappointing for you and shame on DMC. That's such a lot of work to have to unpick and re-do. Perhaps you could continue as you are and you will have an original.

Arrgghhhh, much empathy on your pain and frustration...that doesn't just look like a dye lot variation, that looks like a mis-labled skein with the wrong shade number...I'd definitely be giving DMC a shout...it's such a lovely piece of work...
