I Couldn't Resist..

The other week, I got an email from Under The Mulberry Tree, which featured some wonderful special prices on a few of their items... well, I haven't bought anything like that since December... and... I... weakened...

I had really wanted to get these books for some time, so I took my opportunity then & there. I've had a really thorough leaf through both of them, & found some great new ideas. A Stitch In Time has some wonderful stitchery & hexagons inspiration; but really they are both fantastic books, & I can see myself using some of my fabric overload to make a few of the projects.

As for the Friendship Tree, well I just tossed that into the purchase.. after all, the books together cost less than one at regular price, so it was simply good economics, I say! I've never done a design from The Birdhouse so I thought I'd start with this one.

At the risk of sounding philosophical... I feel differently about buying these, not having bought for a while. My pattern for so long was to buy, flick through, then store the book. Or love the fabric, buy it, toss it in a box, then forget about it. Some books haven't been opened since, I'm embarrassed to say.  And fabrics forgotten. But I've opened, & opened, & opened these ones quite a few times, even marking some pages with post-it notes for swap project ideas, colour combinations to consider, gift ideas... It seems that I'm valuing these items more, since having adopted a "use what I've got" mentality, & that feels really good.

It's like I'm really 'getting' the whole point of starting this blog in the first place. Using my overload, valuing what I have, limiting the purchase of new stuff, AND very importantly, I'm really enjoying what I'm making & doing. Also, as my twin daughters are both at high-pressure points in their lives, it's a great way for me to decompress from the challenges that come up from time to time.

Phew, I'm realising this is a long post, so I'm going to go make use of some alone time...
Have a Fantastic Day!
