Well I can hardly believe it, I have finished my very first quilt!
Like its maker, it's a bit wonky & bumpy in places... plenty of room for improvement... but I've learned a lot... AND the best thing is... mr12 loves it, Woo Hoo!
So here are some details:
I've had a few questions about the fabric...the fabric is called 'ticking'; it's 100% cotton & traditionally was used as the outer for mattresses and pillows, these days used as a less hard-working home decorator fabric. Each strand is quite thick but very soft, and the fabric as a whole is very soft but durable.
Each of the squares was cut to 9inches, the whole quilt is 61inches by 78 inches, or 154cm x 197cm.
Yes, it's a big'un, & is based on a 'design sheet' I printed off the Spotlight website sometime ago...
Following an email from Maria (Life On The Block) I looked into how to fully machine stitch the binding, for great durability. I did indeed find some great info. So I stitched the binding to the back of the quilt, then folded it to the front, machine stitching it in place. I cannot believe that little ole me did such a good job of the binding! It is so neat I can't believe it...

So let the picture fest begin...

Binding at back of quilt. I tell you, if I can do it this neat, anyone can! |
And I just had to add these for cuteness factor...
mr12 is very happy with his Man Quilt! |
Ah, the rewards of being Site Manager! |
Thank You everyone for your encouraging words & support... I have really enjoyed quilting & finishing the Man Quilt... I've learned more about my Pfaff... & continued my philosophy of trying new things & challenging myself... and now I've freed up a storage box in the Sewing Space!

Congratulations. You have done such a great job on your first quilt. Here's to many more.
Looks fantastic! I like the sound of machine stitched binding as I hate that part lol all that handstitching is the pits sometimes.
Great work - especially since its your first. I don't mind thbe hand sewing but a machine finish is a great way to go if its going to be "well used"
