The Big Reveal: Quilt Of Forgotten Fabrics...

THE QUILT OF FORGOTTEN FABRICS IS FINISHED, YAY!
So here's the basic story...
In February I decided to see what the interest in paper-pieced hexagons was all about... I went delving into my Overload, and came across a bag of dubious-looking fabrics, that I do not even remember buying... so with them, I set about teaching myself hexagons & really fell in love with it... Joining in with One Flower Wednesday over at Journey of A Quilter was great fun too.
But then, what to do with all these mish-mash flowers? I thought a sofa throw would be a good idea... this whole thing has just evolved as I went along, and this is the end result...
TA DA!!
The quilt measures 39 inches by 46 inches. Each flower was machine-appliqued to a 7inch square, then an orphan petal sewn to each corner, once the squares had been sewn together.
A close-up of the quilting... how much turning and turning did I do?!
You can see the backing here, this quilt looks great on my sofa, and has been snugged under already.
I hope you can also see the binding, it looks fab... I made a label for it by stitching my name & the year onto a 1½ hexagon & stitching it into the binding on the back... Can I say I am a bit pleased with myself?!
Never fear, I will continue to make hexagon flowers, I have a few projects on The Grand Plan...
I am so glad I have done this... I've learned some great new things, made new bloggy friends along the way & have learned a lot about progressing a project that takes a long time to make.
I appreciate everyone's encouragement along my journey with this, especially my OFW pals... and YES I think you will be seeing more quilts here at HibiscusHQ!!

Wow and wow! Your second quilt finish in less than a month. I love all of it... The scrappy binding is perfect and I really like how you used the orphan petals. Can we have a peek at your label?

Oh Anthea - it's wonderful! I only hope mine turns out half that nice. Mine is a mishmash of fabrics from the scrap basket, and I'm not sure I like what I'm putting together. Yours gives me hope. So glad to have met you through your participation in OFW.

Your quilt looks wonderful! Hexies were my first love in patchworking (way back in the 1970s!!!) but some how I've been 'distracted' from them over the years...you've inspired me to start again!

Wow! Absolutely gorgeous! Love your binding, so worth the effort! Bet the poor quilt got a bit dizzy as you were turning and turning and turning to quilt it :) I am very hexie challenged so it is lovely to see other people's success stories. Oh and thanks for the catch up story for those of us- well me really- who has obviously been spending too much time under my rock to have found you earlier than now er at the finish :)

Well done on your finish. Isn't it great how patchwork can bring a lot of very different fabrics together and look great. Sue
