Slowly, Slowly...

That's how I am with my Polka Dot Girls quilt stitcheries progress...
Done: 5
To Go: 12
Last night I finished another of the small stitcheries... well it's better than no progress at all!
I think it's time for me to adopt the 'rotating roster' type of system that Marina & some other bloggers have with their long term projects... I have some long-termers that are starting to play on my mind because of the lack of progress... I don't want them to start feeling like a drag, so I think this will be a good idea for me to do... it will be great to make some meaningful progress with them! While it's great to make things that don't take very long, I need to get these moving along...
I'd love you to share with me... how do you manage your long-term projects?

I did a good number on the iron on Sunday night... pressing school shirts, sneezing and hiccuping are not recommended to perform in a simultaneous manner...
I am still finding bits of plastic despite sweeping the floor a number of times!!

The finishes report for June looks ok... I have 3 for Sew It's Finished, great to get some more UFOs out of the way... and for One Project A Month I have 9 finishes. Despite my whinging about things, I actually am really enjoying my sewing & stitching at the moment...

So much wonderful creating going on in blogland at the moment, I have a lot of blog-reading to catch up on & have a really good look! (Hopefully tonight...)

interesting dilemma - I have 2 projects a month that I "have" to do - one for Stitch-a-long and one for OPAM or Aunt Marti - so usually I concentrate on them first and then I can spend the rest of the month working on the larger things - doesn't always work that way. You could just say "OK the second week of every month is Polka Dot girls and the third week is ???" and allocate it like that.
and of course - no more new projects til you finish what you have!!! hahaha...as if... - that certainly doesn't work for me.

I like to spend a chunk of time prepping blocks for piecing or stitching, and then I can work my way through them in small snippets of time. It can be a drag when you have to do the preparation process individually, especially if space is a problem. When I finish, I schedule another prepping session. I never put unfinished projects away out of sight, as I forget about them!

I do a mixture of what Susan and Susan do... but I also make a list... (I try and break down long term projects into bits... like a block a month... and then a month to do the borders etc...)
I love writing DONE next to the item in my list...

I'll take any advice I can get on how to manage long term projects ... I have a few buried somewhere.

Beautiful stitching Anthea, sad about your iron though.
I am working on Leanne's house BOM and for me its a long term project so I dedicate every Wednesday night to it, I sit most evenings in the lounge with my family watching tele and I always have a stitching project in my lap so I work on that.

Love this stitchery..
I'm not good at long term projects...if it gets put aside, it usually stays there and doesn't get finished, so I get obsessed about it and keep going till it's finished. Can get boring at times doing that, I think I need to work on a rotating system too.

Lovely stitchery...so pretty. I am taking all the advice given to you as I have no idea... I eventually finish but there is definitely no organised plan.

lovely little stitchery, I'd say it's great progress...
Poor iron? I'd say it was a fatal accident.
Enjoy planning your projects!

I have a whiteboard and I put up the must finishes by the date on that then have some of the longer term things on it as well to do when I get time. You have done pretty well with your finishes this month. Hugs....

Love your stitchery and can't offer any advice as I don't have a plan, just put stuff down and pick it up again whenever! LOL!

You're making a lovely job of your stitchery. I have so many projects, quite a few that are long-term. I just go with the flow and work on what is calling my name. Stitchalongs and other monthly commitments are great for getting smaller things finished, but for me that often doesn't leave much time for the longterm projects. It's been great reading everyone's comments on what works for them too....

Cute stitchery...I tend to do a little of each one...think I have about 7on the go...that way they all are slowl getting done...tis the starting that's the hard part...when do you stop lol

Anthea you making good steady progress. There are lots of stitches in each stitchery and you are doing a great job. Lots. Of great ideas about priorities. Might have to think of my own.

Your stitchery is beautiful. I am trying the rotating system too, although not so strictly that if I feel like working on one project then I can!

Love your little stitchery!! I'd share my method for getting things done with you, but I don't get things done. I think I need to start setting monthly goals again, and revisiting the list at the end of each month.

Love your latest stitchery Anthea. Can you believe I've never heard of the 'rotating roster' method of keeping projects on course... glad you mentioned it.. sounds like a great idea. Shame about the iron.. last time I did that I burned the carpet...ooop's. Hugs :o)

Anthea, love your polka dot girls quilt you've been working on, your stitching is beautiful! I have many many BOMs and I'm having a hard time keeping up to date. One meets every month, and I'm up to date because of the support....they made me stay till midnight just so I'd finish and another BOM is free as long as you bring in the previous blocks finished....free is good! I'm not up to date on the others....Good Luck and Happy Stitching!
