Gotta Love The School Hols...

So many parents gripe about the school holidays, what a pain their kids are, how much they're spending to keep them entertained... how sad...
Nope, not me... I love the break, not only for myself not having to do the whole 'school/uni thing' but also for how much my kids love it & are making the best of the time they have.
They've been great helping me with some things when I've needed some extra hands & of course the stitching/sewing time is great too.

The layer cake quilt is now at the quilter (yes Tracy I finally did those last 3 joins!) & 'Birdhouse Row' progress is not worth sharing just yet.
I've been forgetting to post progress with my Sew Sweet Simplicity BOM blocks... it's the fiddliest sewing I've done for a while... not entirely impressed with my Flying Geese components, despite following the instructions to the tee, ggrrr... but somehow I fudge them so they end up ok when sewn into the block. Whinge over; I'm happy with the results of my efforts so far.

I made robust declarations of my desire to keep up with this, but I confess I have 2 blocks to make before the next one is sent out... so guess what I'll be working on during Friday & the weekend?!

Thought I'd take the opportunity to show you what I keep my blocks in... the packaging from a mattress protector... it's slightly structured & the full zip-around protects the blocks... not as pretty as a handmade block holder, but does the job admirably, don't you think?

Before I go, I want to say thank you & welcome to my new Followers...
also, I received some Comments after FNWF from ladies set as 'no-reply' (which is why I haven't)... I've not had the chance to visit the full list of FNWF ladies yet, so perhaps you're on that?

My Site Manager is also loving the holidays... watching heaps of cricket, possessing the remote controls... seriously, could he be any more comfortable??!!!

Your blocks look great, Anthea. Bedding packaging is great for storing projects. I recently bought the boys new doona covers and they came in zippered bags. They are now in the sewing room just waiting for projects! Looks like the site manager is concentrating hard on the cricket. Does he also watch the tennis? LOL!

Well done you, they look fab. I still have to make the second block up. I found it quite fiddly too and that may be whats holding me back from the next one, but I just have to grit my teeth and get stuck into it.

Anthea. Those blocks are so pretty. I love them. I always loved School holidays too....nearly always had a cardboard and Lego village in the living room Lol! Lots of fun memories... except for the treading on the Lego pieces in bare feet Lol!

Cute blocks - such cheery fabrics. I'm not fond of flying geese, and I've tried several different ways of making them. Practice makes perfect, I guess.

Anthea, I always enjoyed the 'kids' school vacations ....
I haven't even attempted Jacquelynne's blocks yet - too much other stuff to do but I do want to try them - yours look terrific.
I've noticed lots of folks leaving comments on my blog are now 'no-reply' and am wondering if they know that ... perhaps blogger has made the change for them.
Happy weekend. :)

LOL love the site manager! Mine is loving the heat and being out doors. Did get some cooler days here and she is under the doona napping lol. Naughty girl. Love seeing your blocks and yes I also reuse that sort of packaging. Must put those dates for FNWF and FNSI in my diary because I forget them otherwise and would love to join in again.

I so agree with you Anthea about the school holidays and the kids being home. The time goes so quick, why people don't embrace it and enjoy their children growing up beats me! lol It's such a fun time. My boys have both finished school and are still living at home....we have the best fun. Love your bright fun blocks, they're super cool.
Cheers, Anita.

I don't have school age children these days - however I used to love the school holidays too Anthea, (before I returned to work) not having to run around in the mornings and get them off to school and doing the school run in the afternoon. Love your blocks Anthea, very nice and colourful. You have a great storage place for them, I just have mine sitting on my craft table.
