Site Manager on Sick Leave

Our darling little doggy has been laid low... because of another dog-owners thoughtlessness.

I'm so sick of stupid people not having an understanding that any dog is capable of any behaviour at any time... regardless of breed, age & general nature, every dog has an unpredictable side.

And this is what can happen... our little 4.2kg mate on his lead, at the mercy of a completely unrestrained 30kg+ Labrador.
Thank God it happened right across the road from our house, or else I really do think SM would be in much worse shape or even in doggy heaven now. The owner lady had no control at all, & it only released SM when I intervened.
SM has 4 puncture wounds to his rear left side, one is a decent size. No stitches or Vet stay, but still, it's a lot for a small dog to recover from. Bruising will be extensive.
This has left not only my dog wounded, but my daughter very upset & me angry... plus the Lab owner with my Vet bill & her daughter visibly traumatised by what her dog did.

Wound pics aren't appropriate, but I will share this of him resting comfortably today... in his favourite sunny indoor spot. You may be able to make out a bit of where he was shaved for treatment.
So for now he is more spoilt than ever!

Poor little SM, I hope his recovery is speedy. Amen to your words Anthea, I totally agree with you. Some people do not deserve to own dogs, they have no idea how to train them and teach them manners etc. It's got nothing to do with the breed that the dog is and it's reputation, it's only that way due to it's upbringing.

Some people are thoughtless and shouldn't own a pet. Poor SM. hoping for a speedy recovery.

Oh no poor little guy!!!! HOW can people be so thoughtless - I have no use for someone like that. I hope your little guy recovers quickly!!

Oh the poor SM.. I do hope he is feeling his old self again soon.
I know what you mean about thoughtless folk. Twice now Lacy has been attacked while on her lead at the beach, thankfully I picked her up ( I know bad move) and was able to get away. consequently I no longer take her with me for my walk along the beach. I am too scared Lacy will get badly hurt...

Oh No.... poor little thing. A dog bite can cause a lot of pain. I was bitten once and it hurt for such a long time let alone your poor baby.
People just don't know how to read their dogs. Hope they have learnt a valuable lesson..

Oh Anthea, your poor little fellow. We survived a similar incident, but it does really have such a huge impact on small dogs. I'm glad he is going to be ok......hopefully the neighbours will get some sense. Lots of tlc and treats will help his recovery. X

I can relate to what happened to your little one
My little dog has been attacked on numerous occasions I think she wears a sign saying "attack me"
Fortunately I have been able to get her away before she was badly hurt but she is now traumatised If she sees a dog coming she cringes in fear and tries to run home
Your little one is very lucky
Hugs

Oh, poor little sweetheart! My heart ached reading of this tragic incident. I agree - we've had some near misses when we've taken our dogs out for walks. We carry pepper spray with us now - can't take the chance - P.S. the pepper spray won't hurt the dogs, just make them back down. Fortunately, we haven't had to use it.
Love and hugs to your little one - and you and your daughter.

Several years ago our little miniature schnauzer was attacked by an Akita in front of our house!......sent her to the hospital and luckily we were able to keep her for a few more years before she went to Rainbow Bridge........luckily the Akita owner was responsible when it came to the vet bill but didn't make the wounds hurt any less. Hope your little one recovers quickly.

This is exactly why I carry a large stick or golf club when I take my dogs out. SO many people are so thoughtless! Thankfully, I've never had to use it.

I'm glad it wasn't worse and I hope SM heals quickly. He sure is a cutie!

I like Kim M's idea of carrying pepper spray.

Poor SM hope he makes a speedy recovery and isn't too traumatised by the experience. Our furry friends are every bit a part of the family and when they hurt we do too.

I think any dog outside its own boundary should be on a leash..Poor SM - I imagine he doesn't want too many hugs but I'm sure you are spoiling him...

Anthea, I am so sorry, I hope poor little SM recovers quickly. Sadly some pet owners are very thoughtless, or do not care at all, I am always terrified something like this will happen to my little Ollie. I hope SM is resting comfortably and I am sure plenty of spoiling will help his recovery. Thinking of you xx

Oh my goodness.... Poor SM - what a terrible thing to happen - I hope he is feeling better soon... it is such a traumatic thing to happen - not only to SM but also to you all as well.
I still remember the day my 2 Great Danes (both on the lead) with me holding them, were attacked by 2 Staffy/crosses - trying to protect the dogs and myself and get the other 2 to stop attacking was terrifying.... luckily nothing too serious happened as the owner managed to pull them off us but it is something I have never forgotten...
Big hugs to you all and Mitzi sends her puppy hugs to SM as well :o) xx
