This is a hard few sentences to write, so I'm just going to get it out of the way.
A family situation has come up that means I need to give up my Sewing Space.
It's breaking my heart to do it, but it's the RIGHT THING for my family at this time.
I will still be able to sew, but I just won't have a permanent spot to call my own. Having had this little Space for so long now, I can't quite figure out how I'm going to manage, but I'm sure I will, somehow or other.
I just have to keep reminding myself that it's not forever & that there just could be some 'life learning' in this experience for me. And that my family comes first.
My Space won't be looking like this for much longer... yes that is my collection of Buddies on the windowsill... Iron Man, Barbie, PegChook, swap gifts, some crazy pens & of course new residents the Chook Family. I'm going to try finding them a little basket to live in, a bit like 'renting'.
Bye Bye Sewing Space... don't you worry, I'll still be sewing without you!
*~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~*
I've been moving & re-organising stuff & barely picking up a needle in the last two weeks, but I do at least have a couple of things to share...
My Retreat Quilt (started on the ANZAC weekend) is fully finished now... top all made from Overload, wide backing purchased... I totally love it... so glad I went with the red bind... it measures a snuggly 65" x 80".
I've been doing a little bit of Christmas cross stitching in recent weeks too, taking it to Patch group instead of the sewing machine.
Santa has a letter stitched next to him, but I can't show that just yet. He'll be landing in someone's mail box in a few weeks.
I'm going to give myself time to do some blog reading during the weekend & also do some sewing. Perhaps it will do some good for my head & my heart.

Oh bummer. That's no good at all, but it's important to care for your family. I'm sure it won't be forever. Think of all the hand sewing you'll be able to do.
sad to lose your own personal space but it sounds like it is for a good cause.
The biggest pill is to find homes for all your bits and bobs.
I am sure the recipient of the room will appreciate the sacrifice.
Beautiful quilt finish!
Sometimes we do what we have to do and family are so important. Keep a positive heart and you will get back your space or find a new spot somewhere else. Hugs for you.
Hope you get your sewing space back soon. Sometimes we have to change our priorities, and when you get your space back it will be like getting a brand new space- you can reorganize and do new thing there :-) Stay positive :-)
Sorry to hear of your situation. I have never had a sewing space of my own but I enjoy stitching in my family's company. Hope it all works out for you.
Life often throws us a curve ball but family comes first and how nice that you have your Patch group to go to...I am sure your friends won't be renting their basket for long.
Love your quilt finish..

It's hard to give up something we love but it never ceases to amaze me how adaptable we all are. At the end of the day as mothers, daughter, wives and sisters we do what's best for our families. That is the most important thing in life. Just keep on sewing and stitching. You will get your space back one day Di x
I only need a chair to sit and hand sew to make me happy. I know you'll miss your space and setting up your machine may be difficult but it will probably only be a temporary situation. And you can still blog and keep us up to date. Xox
Gorgeous quilt finish Anthea. And I'm looking forward to seeing your finished cross stitch.
You are a good person.
Yes my dear, family comes first. And you know you'll find a place to sew! The hardest part is not being able to leave everything laying out all the time. I hope your issue is resolved to everyone's satisfaction. And your buddies will be patiently waiting for you. Love your quilt - the red binding is the perfect touch. Hugs.
I hope you'll be able to have everything worked out. Love your quilt. Wish I had the patience to sit and stitch.
you'll get it back in time.......pop the chook family into a box and they'll look after your packed up sewing gear......just leave the important things really accessible so you can pull it all out on the dining/kitchen table sometimes........
your quilt is beautiful..........the green back looks great.....
So now you will have a mobile sewing room...pop your buddies in a basket and sit them next to your chair when you need their company.xx
I know how you feel. I had to give mine up before Christmas. Sewed on kitchen table for months until i removed a coffee table that sat in my bedroom extension & put my sewing table there. Just need a little table now for the cutting mat & i'll be right.:). Love your quilt. Hugs,xx
Family first always Anthea, you just have to do what you have to do.
Hope you'll still have some time to yourself to sew and chill out....
Love the quilt.
Hugs Julia ♥
Sorry to hear that Anthea...I am sure you will do what ever you can for family...and one day you will get your space back again. Keep some hand sewing with you, or knitting so you can do something that gives you pleasure..there is always light at the end of the tunnel...just the bends and curves makes it hard to see. xx
Ah Friend....I have nothing to add that all your wonderful followers haven't already said but you are right...."family always comes first"......but also "Where there's a will there's a way".......happy sewing!
One gets so used to having a special sewing space.... changes need to be made at different times... hope all is ok with you ...xx and I looooove that quilt.... great finish
Hugz
Oh yes - family is even more important than sewing. Though I bet you will still be able to sew as much as ever; you are so clever I know that you will find a way. xxx
Gorgeous quilt!
Sorry to hear that life has decided to send you a curve ball.... hopefully things will settled down quickly!
Hugs xx
I know how precious a little space like that is but of course family always come first. I hope that all will be well for you and your family and that you don't disappear from your virtual sewing space. The quilt is lovely as is your little Santa. Sending hugs and prayers. xx
Sending you hugs as you adjust to this new family situation.
Your little cross stitch is really sweet!
My sewing room is lonely during the week while I'm away at work, shame we aren't closer you could keep each other company...hope the curve ball straightens out soon for your family...loving the retreat quilt, very snuggly looking...x
You are gorgeous... Hope all is well ....family is number one ... Find that special chair so you can still sit and relax and I think Keryn is right surround yourself with those special friends ....you keep, safe xxx
