The backing was finished on Saturday, so my Birthday FQs Quilt is ready to go to the quilter! Yay!
This is my fifth quilt, but the first time I have pieced a backing... what an effort it was... wrangling this great big thing through Miss Pfaff... pressing it & trying to see if it was sitting flat after each addition of purple fabric... I confess I'm glad it's done now... I'll be going with a wideback next quilt!
Anyway here it is... in all its purple & green glory...
The contrast between the purple outer & the inner fabrics is not as stark as this pic suggests, it's just hard to get a good pic of something so big, & in cloudy weather.
Now I'm off to wash a dog bed or two for the Site Manager...
is anyone else having hilarious visions of a Papillon dog, hand washing his bedding in a laundry trough?!

Looks great!!!!
LOL wouldn't that be nice if our pets could wash their own bedding....
Love it! you're very clever with piecing your backing with the fabric left over from the quilt front:) Barb.
If that's the back, I think you've just made a reversible quilt. Great job.
wow Anthea it looks fantastic, love it well done ,good luck with the dog bedding, lol.xx
You did a great job with this...looks great.
great finish!
I have visions of the site manager popping the washing in the machine and setting the cycle then sitting back and chilling. I don't think Papillon's should be expected to hand wash?
The quilt backing looks great.
Looks great. Hugs, xx
Looks great. I love the fabrics
You've done a great job of the pieced backing, looks great....
Great job with the pieced backing. And thanks for the reminder - I must wash some pet bedding tonight.
Wow - wonderful job on the backing.
xxx
Nice backing. I always have the problem of lining up the backing straight. Yours looks lovely.
Well done on the fabulous backing! I must admit, that while I love the look of pieced backings, I find it much easier to go the wide backing way!!
That is an awesome backing Anthea...
Well done it looks great for a backing :)
Your pieced backing looks lovely - and big. I need to wash the dog bedding too, but she doesnt want to get off it. Maybe tomorrow will do.
Is that the back? It's gorgeous enough to be a quilt front! xx
The back looks like a quilt on it's own... lovely..... sometimes they can get difficult to manoeveur (sp?) in the machine
Hugz
love the colours, purple and green are so good together.
I'm so impressed with your quilt back. It looks great and it's economical too. You just persuaded me to have a go at piecing one myself...gulp! :o))
Nice! Love the colours, an excellent backing.
Wow Anthea, it looks great. Can't wait to see it on the return from the quilter. Sharyn:)
It is a beautiful quilt back.....and the quilt top is georgious.....just love the colors....
Yes I can just imagine the site manager lol. Do love the backing idea. Looks fantastic!
Hi Anthea,
that sounds like a lot of hard work!! Looks great though.
Cheers, Anita.
Well done Anthea, it looks great. I also just checked your pics of the front & it is gorgeous. How did you go quilting it so the stitching lines matched up on the front and back?
Also glad to hear you have joined a local group. Hope your subsequent visits have been just as good as your first one. It is wonderful to share things FTF as well as online :).
Have a great week,
Tracy
