This morning I got the chance for a quick catch-up with two of my blogging buddies...
Maria (r) & Sandra (c) are part of a quilters group that visit my Patchwork group HQ a couple of times a year, & today was one of those times.

Might be time for a new iron... while I was out for those couple of hours with the ladies, back home one of my DDs has attempted to iron a pretty (synthetic) top... the result was not good:(

Does anyone know how to clean melted/burnt synthetic fabric off an iron?!

Lovely to meet up with blogging friends!! The only cleaning iron thing I know is the tube if iton cleaner you get at the supermarket...don't know if it will help you though.

such fun to catch up with M and S..... I have heard about that same iron cleaner but didn't have much luck with it myself... I think vinegar and bicarb might be worth trying?

Put iron onto lowest heat setting & burnt fabric should soften - remove/scrape with wooden spatula. Use equal parts of baking soda & water by dipping cloth in solution and wiping. Also recommended for burnt polyester is the use of acetone nail polish remover.
once done - a sheet of plain paper with a bit of table salt - run the iron over it a few times to remove leftover sticky residue. Once the iron cools wipe with a damp cloth.

Sounds like Sharmayne may have the answer - I would have suggested a high temperature and put some old fabric over the edge of the ironing board and drag the iron over the edge...that is what I do if I get fusible applique stuff on my iron.
